About Wrinkle Treatments

What is a Neurotoxin (BOTOX®/XEOMIN®) and how does it work?

Neurotoxins are injectable solutions that work by preventing nerve signals that cause facial muscle contractions, thereby relaxing the facial muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles.

What can I expect during my BOTOX®/XEOMIN® treatment?

Neurotoxin treatments take between 15 and 45 minutes depending on if you are a new or returning client. After consultation, the areas of concern will be addressed, and anatomical markings will be applied with a removable pen to assess each patient’s individual anatomy and ensure accurate placement and assess each patient’s individual anatomy. The neurotoxin will be administered using a tiny needle and most patients tolerate the procedure very well. Ice can be applied before and after the treatment to assist in any discomfort.

When will I see results?

Results may be noticed as early as 48 hours and can last 3-6 months. Although you may begin to see improvement in wrinkles earlier, It is important to understand that final results will not be obtained until 2 weeks after treatment.

Why is it important to return for my 2 week follow up appointment?

All muscles do not relax at the same rate and will take 2 weeks to reach their final state of relaxation. At this time, we can assess your results and make adjustments if needed. 2 units of relaxer are included free of cost at your follow-up appointment.

Will BOTOX®/XEOMIN® prevent me from getting future wrinkles?

With continued use of neurotoxins, the muscles targeted will atrophy over time and prevent the movements that cause wrinkles to be formed. This will decrease the appearance of wrinkles and help to prevent them from forming. There are other factors that contribute to wrinkle formation such as environmental, especially sun exposure. It is critical to use sunscreen daily for skin health and to prevent wrinkles.

Are Wrinkle Relaxers the same as Facial Fillers?

I get this question asked often. Many people are confused by the difference between fillers and toxins. Let’s start by saying, there is a huge difference. Wrinkle Relaxers are composed of the toxin that works on the muscle to inhibit its full movement, thus smoothing out the lines and wrinkles that lay on top of the muscles targeted. Filler is usually composed of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in our tissues. Facial filler composed of hyaluronic acid is often used to create volume, fullness, and structure to areas of the face. They can help contour cheekbones, soften lines around the nose and mouth and provide added volume to the lips. Dermal fillers target volume loss rather than muscle-related wrinkles. When used in conjunction, fillers and anti-wrinkle injections can produce beautiful, natural looking skin rejuvenation. At TEAL Elite Med Spa in Mt. Pleasant, SC, we only use fillers containing hyaluronic acid. They are safer and can be reversed if needed. Our philosophy also includes delivering natural looking enhancements and results.

Kristen Drenga

My journey to becoming an advanced practice nurse specializing in anesthesia and aesthetics started at the early age of 14 when I began working in a retirement community. For over 25 years now I have committed my life to take care of others and I love it. Most of my career has been spent in the intensive care setting and providing anesthesia to operative patients.

Just like every story has two sides so does my passion for providing care to others. I have always been in love with beauty, fashion, and the creative process. My dream career and goal in life have led me to merge the two sides of myself into the practitioner I am today.
