About Facial Fillers
What to expect during a filler treatment
During your filler treatment, depending on the location and technique used; the area will be anesthetized with a numbing cream. Following this the skin will be cleansed thoroughly and your anatomy will be assessed and marked as well as the treatment plan. The filler also has a numbing agent called lidocaine so as the procedure begins the numbing medicine will take effect. You will be asked to animate during your procedure and your position may be adjusted throughout to ensure the most natural aesthetically pleasing results. Depending on the area treated gentle massage may be utilized as well as ice packs. Afterwards some clients may experience swelling and bruising that will dissipate over time. During your consult we will discuss methods to decrease these side effects and what to avoid the days prior to your treatment. In most cases your results are immediate after the procedure. Lips are an area that tend to have more risk for bruising and swelling. It takes 2-6 weeks for the filler to fully settle into its final appearance. I believe in gradual subtle improvements so I like to see you back in 2 weeks to assess and add additional filler if necessary. This is especially important with lips in order to avoid the dreaded duck or sausage lip! This is also the safest method of filler placement.
What are the main benefits of dermal filler?
As we age, we lose a percentage of our hyaluronic acid as well as facial fat in certain areas of our face. In addition, we gain fat cells in undesirable locations of our face. This leads to sagging skin, prominent nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and jowls; among other things. Filler helps to restore the lost fat and can lift and soften the areas of concern as well as minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Filler can also add volume in areas like the lips and cheeks, to enhance the overall appearance and balance of the face. In addition to facial restoration and rejuvenation, filler can be used to augment areas such as the lips, chin, and nose. There are many benefits of filler including adding hydration to the skin and optimizing it to add a youthful glow.
How long do results last?
RHA Filler lasts 9 months to a year, with some clients experiencing results for even longer.
Are dermal fillers safe?
All dermal fillers have a small risk for development of a vascular occlusion during treatment. This is a rare occurrence that is discussed in depth along with other risks and benefits of dermal filler during your filler consult. It is extremely important that your provider is informing you of this possibility. Sadly, I have found that many clients were completely unaware of this from their previous provider. Hyaluronic Acid Filler is the only type of filler that has a reversal agent if such an event were to occur. This is the reason at TEAL we only provide this type of filler. Having an injector that is knowledgeable about anatomy and takes the time to mark and assess your anatomy is another factor that provides safety during your treatment. At TEAL my main priority is your safety. If you schedule a filler appointment be prepared to answer a series of questions and receive a detailed explanation of what to expect during your consult.
Common uses for facial filler
The most common locations for filler include the lips, cheeks, chin, lower face, temples, and nose.
What makes our approach different?
At Teal we only use Hyaluronic acid filler. RHA by Revance is the only brand on the market that most closely resembles our own hyaluronic acid. This means that the filler looks natural and moves seamlessly with our facial expressions. We specialize in natural results that make a difference. At TEAL we spend time mapping out your anatomy to ensure you receive the safest, most aesthetically pleasing results. Every face is different, therefore every treatment is tailored to the individual client. I value my clients and understand that they can go anywhere to receive their filler treatments. I am passionate about providing beautiful, safe results and building a trusting relationship that will last.

Are Wrinkle Relaxers the same as Facial Fillers?
I get this question asked often. Many people are confused by the difference between fillers and toxins. Let’s start by saying, there is a huge difference. Wrinkle Relaxers are composed of the toxin that works on the muscle to inhibit its full movement, thus smoothing out the lines and wrinkles that lay on top of the muscles targeted. Filler is usually composed of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in our tissues. Facial filler composed of hyaluronic acid is often used to create volume, fullness, and structure to areas of the face. They can help contour cheekbones, soften lines around the nose and mouth and provide added volume to the lips. Dermal fillers target volume loss rather than muscle-related wrinkles. When used in conjunction, fillers and anti-wrinkle injections can produce beautiful, natural looking skin rejuvenation. At TEAL Elite Med Spa in Mt. Pleasant, SC, we only use fillers containing hyaluronic acid. They are safer and can be reversed if needed. Our philosophy also includes delivering natural looking enhancements and results.

My journey to becoming an advanced practice nurse specializing in anesthesia and aesthetics started at the early age of 14 when I began working in a retirement community. For over 25 years now I have committed my life to take care of others and I love it. Most of my career has been spent in the intensive care setting and providing anesthesia to operative patients.
Just like every story has two sides so does my passion for providing care to others. I have always been in love with beauty, fashion, and the creative process. My dream career and goal in life have led me to merge the two sides of myself into the practitioner I am today.
